Moulinié The Elder, ~1850

Geneva. Literally `Moulinié The Elder´. A maker of high-class musical boxes playing overtures, who produced a number of large boxes c. 1850, including a most elaborate interchangeable-cylinder box. His key-wound boxes are notable in that sometimes the case end flap over the three control levers has its own lock. His name is often stamped in small serif capitals on the polished brass bedplate.

"Geneva, Switzerland, 1860. Afterwards in partnership with Mojon, Montandon, and traded as Mojon, Manger & Co. as makers of musical boxes."

26-27 Bartletts Buildings, London, E.C. c. 1880. Makers of large-size musical boxes, some with dancing dolls and with bells and drum. They also made coin-operated cylinder boxes and, later, mechanical harmoniums and pianos. According to their catalogue, they produced `Table musical boxes playing 24, 36, 48 and 100 airs´. They sold Specialite musical boxes which had a double spring and played 20 to 150 minutes on one winding. The firm also made clocks and watches and had a factory at Chaux-de-Fonds, Geneva, and a branch warehouse at Oxford Terrace, Coventry. Many of the larger musical boxes have the letters `MMC´ stamped on the cock.
