Pierre Simon Gounouilhou

Born 1779, he came to Geneva at the age of 20 and rapidly assumed a position of respect amongst watchmakers. He produced a number of finelycrafted watches including a musical repeater watch in the Ilbert collection (British Museum). Usually signed watches: `Sim Gounouilhou sur le quai neuf en l´Isle a Geneve´. Became associated with the Swiss school of watchmaking set up in the early 1830s and in 1836 published a report on the progress of students at the `School of Movement Blanks´ in Geneva. He died in 1847. One small snuff-box-type musical box has been seen (A.J. Colley) playing two airs with sectional comb in groups of three. (Ord-Hume, Musical Boxes, p. 305)
