Benoit, Gebel Geneva, c. 1805. Maker of singing birds. The premises, in a street subsequently named Rue Jean-Jacques Rousseau, and numbered 69, were indeed the birthplace, on 28 June 1712, of Rousseau. The text of a business card, published in The Gentleman's Magazine in 1831 and reproduced in The Music Box, Vol. 6, page 90, reads: Gebel Benoit et Comp au 2me étage de cette maison tiennent horlogeries et pièces à musique. See also Martinet & Benoit. (Ord-Hume, Musical Boxes, p. 293)
