"Samel Woog. 4 Finsbury Circus, London, E.C.
In 1860, Samuel Woog, importer of clocks and watches, became the first British distributor for the musical boxes of L´Épée of Sainte-Suzanne, France, which were factored through the Paris business of Thibouville-Lamy. In 1861, Samuel Woog moved to 32 Ely Place, Clerkenwell. Boxes which he factored were marked with the initials S.W. in an oval. Samuel died in 1865 and the business was taken over by his brother Jules Woog of 19 Bartlett´s Buildings. In 1871, the business was taken over by Adolphe Woog, presumably a son of either Samuel or Jules. The business remained at 10 Barlett´s Buildings until 1879 when the firm and the musical-box agency was taken over by Charles Feis & Co. at the same address. While Adolphe was in charge, boxes were marked with the initials A.W. in an oval. The activities of Feis were superseded in 1884 when Thibouville-Lamy opened its London offices at 10 Charterhouse Street. When, in 1876, Adolphe Woog applied to register a trademark he is described as watch manufacturer of 12 rue du Quatre Septembre, Paris and 10 Bartlett´s Buildings, Holborn."
