E.K. Hoffmann Was granted British Patent number 3241 of 7 August 1880, for a low-cost mass-production-type musical box incorporating the mainspring in the end of the cylinder and other simplifications of the mechanism (see The Music Box, Volume 8, page 125, 1977).
