Abraham (Abram) François Chapuis / Chappuis, 1777–1832 Chappuis-Zoller Désirée & Chappuis (1810 – 1811) According to research by Suzanne Maurer, there were two makers in Geneva named Chappuis. Abraham (sometimes spelled Abram) François Chappuis was born in 1777, the son of a watchmaker, Jean Pierre Chappuis. In 1803 he married Suzanne François Zoller and in common with tradition from that time hence he was styled as Chappuis Zoller as well as under his own name. In June 1810, he formed an association with another watchmaker, Jean Paul Désiré, to manufacture and trade in musical boxes under the names Désiré & Chappuis. Intended to run for at least six years, this was dissolved on 30 June 1811 when Désiré left to arrange the liquidation: he died in 1851. Chappuis worked on his own now and by 1816 was at rue de Coutance 72, St. Gervais, Geneva. In 1822 he moved to Plainpalais and by 1828 he was at rue du Molard 123, where he died in 1832. [...] Several very beautifully made musical boxes are known with the name Abram Chappuis and Abram Chapuis Zoller. Undoubtedly a maker of quality. (Ord-Hume, Musical Boxes, p. 298) Jacob Chappuis. The second Chappuis was at rue Rousseau 55, between 1826 and 1831. This is thought to have been Jacob Chappuis. Als Sohn des Uhrmachers Jean Pierre Chapuis im Jahr 1777 geboren, heiratete er 1803 Suzanne Françoise Zoller und nannte sich ab diesem Zeitpunkt Chapuis-Zoller. 1810 ging er eine Partnerschaft mit Jean Paul Désiré, die nur ein Jahr dauern sollte. Es ist bisher kein gemarktes Spielwerk bekannt geworden. Bis zu seinem Tod in Jahr 1832 dürfte Chapuis alleine gearbeitet haben.
