A mid-19th century inverse-carved intaglio-mounted
tortoiseshell musical snuffbox playing two airs,
Serial N° unknown, stamped to single-section comb B.M.,
under
tinted horn cover, in the lightly streaked polished tortoiseshell
case, the lid inset with large oval red agate of slight domed profile
inversely carved with a naked hero and maiden upon leaping
horse-mermaid at sea, gilt frame with white enamel border,
start/stop and change controls to front, plain underside
Dimensions: case: 3 3/4 inches (9.5cm) wide, cylinder: 2 1/2 inches (6.5cm)
