Schwartzendorff, *1741, †1816, tersely referred to as Tedesco = German) on tune sheets Schwartzendorff settled in France where he found Italian music very popular, so he adopted the name Martini. But the locals were not fooled, and labelled him Martini il Tedesco, which stuck – until PVF and others did without the Martini.
