„Bonnie Dundee“ Bonny Dundee is a very old Scottish folk-tune used for at least fifteen songs. Sir Walter Scott, *1771, †1832, was a Scottish historical novelist, poet, playwright and historian. His knowledge of history and literary facility equipped him to establish the historical novel genre and as an exemplar of European Romanticism. On 22 December 1825 Scott wrote: „The air of ‘Bonnie Dundee’ running in my head today I [wrote] a few verses to it before dinner, taking the key-note from the story of Claverse leaving the Scottish Convention of Estates in 1688-9“.
