Reymond Nicole ouverture music box s/n 104

Bedplate

Cylinder cap

There is an incised number "2038" on the right edge of the cylinder visible when tune has completed playing.

The bedplate has serial number "14951" left corner of the solid brass bedplate just above the spring barrel.

The cabinet size of the case is 27" in length, 9" in height and 11" deep incl the lid. The case has fancy grained Circassian walnut veneer all around and with a simple design inlaid edge. On the center of lid is a handsome brass and mother of pearl inlaid medallion with some red mahogany accents. It has been determined that the case is a Victorian replacement. Original case was possibly damaged or maybe the owner might have wanted to improve with the more handsome newer design cases of the period during a service call. The answer to this question we will never know or exactly who performed the update but the restoration undoubtedly done a proper box manufacturer, with all work up to music box makers standards with a newer design lift crank handle and now newer parts work stamped with appropriate numbers to match the original stampings. So in its present state, the drop end keywind case the music box was originally housed is now aupdated design inlaid music box case, circa 1875-90. (©Wayde Roxbury)
