A fine and rare ‘Mandoline Basse Piccolo’ format part-overture musical box playing six airs, playing works by Donizetti, Rossini and Meyerbeer including the introduction of
William Tell and the Benediction of Les Huguenots,

with large single-spring motor,

two-section comb of 165 teeth with the mandoline teeth in groups of mostly eight across three-quarters of the length, on reeded cast gilt bedplate in ebonised interior under dustlid, period buff tunesheet to rebated and kingwood framed lid interior, in canted-cornered case with superbly figured and bookmatched burr-walnut veneers, kingwood and strung crossbanding with Greek key corners to front and sides, the domed lid with matching inlay and central mother-of-pearl and coromandel cartouche, raised on ebonised and walnut banded veneered plinth base
